Training League Programs
ABC's Training League program is open to younger boys and girls to teach the fundamentals of baseball and softball and to set an example of and teach good sportsmanship in a safe environment.
Sign Ups
Formal sign up sessions for the 2008 season have already been held, but ABC is still accepting registrations for the training league program on a "space available" basis. Read more…
Training League Divisions
Read below (or see the baseball age chart or softball age chart) to determine the specific age division assignment based on date of birth. Players can be on a team in an older age group, but not younger. Players MUST be at least 5 years old BEFORE April 1, 2008 to participate in ABC’s Training League program.
Tee Ball: Boys and girls – with birthdates from August 2001 through March 2003
PAL Ball: Boys -- with birthdates from August 2000 through July 2001
GAL Ball: Girls -- with birthdates from January 1999 through July 2001
Tee Ball is the first level for the youngest players. Play begins with the batter hitting the ball off the tee stand and then the fun begins. Properly coached, playing Tee Ball forms the beginning foundations for learning hitting, fielding, throwing, running, hand-eye coordination, good sportsmanship, and most of all, having FUN playing the game!
The major change once you advance to PAL Ball and GAL Ball is that batters hit from a pitching machine. The foundations for learning the game continue at this level and fundamentals should continually be reinforced in preparation for moving on to the next level: KID PITCH!
In all training league divisions, coaches are allowed on the field and at the plate to instruct and encourage players as the game is played. Safety balls are used in all games (they “give” a little bit when squeezed or hit).
2008 Season / Schedule
The 2008 season will begin on Saturday, April 19 and continue into July. Training League teams play a 12 game season.
Training League teams typically play games on Friday nights and/or Saturday mornings, but scheduling issues may cause some games to be played on other days.
